The Red Wall Project

Empowering underprivileged women, non-binary, and gender-diverse people to speak up against sexual abuse and violence.

Breaking the Silence

Initiated by activist and artist Kalki Subramaniam, The Red Wall Project is a participatory artivism movement. For the past two years, the Sahodari team has interviewed over 500 transgender and gender non-binary individuals, documenting stories of rejection, violence, and abuse.

Almost every transgender person may have endured violent experiences at least once in their lives. Many remain silent victims. We sensitize the public and media because silence encourages more violence.

Includes testimonials from PLHIV, homeless trans persons, and victims of family rejection.

The Art of Protest

Participants write their testimonials on handmade paper and imprint their red palm on it.

The Participatory Model

Participants write their physical and sexual violence experiences in their own words. For those who cannot write, our team listens and documents them. This is followed by a red painted palm impression of their hand—a symbolic mark of resistance and a call for justice.

With consent, these testimonials are exhibited at universities, colleges, and public galleries across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Delhi.

In the Media

The Red Wall Project has been widely documented by national media for its unique approach to sensitizing the public.
